Father, I thank you for life!

Please pray for LIFE!
God really is GOOD! He is perfect, and His grace is sufficient and His love is abounding (without boundaries!).He is just and Holy. He is faithful...
Hello friends!!! How are you doing??I am doing well. I slept in till 8:30 this morning. I didn't get much sleep the night before because I had Sina for the night(our DARLING little girl that came to us at 1 month old weighing 1.7 kilos--just under 4 pounds! She is now 9 weeks old and weighs 2.7 kilos and is just thriving! She is so perfect and amazing). we have to do feeds every 3 hours, and at night every 4 hours. It was a joy to have her though. I just prayed over her and thanked God for the miracle of her life. While rejoicing in God's goodness for Sina, we are also warfaring and believing God's victory for Matteus (Matthew). The police brought us this little boy, about 1 1/2 or 2 yrs., last Friday afternoon. They found him abandoned. He is VERY malnourished, and he has a sickness due to malnutrition that is so very dangerous, the dr. said really kids with this could drop dead at any moment. His legs are quite swollen, and we are tube feeding him. He is such a treasure! His eyes are the sweetest eyes I have EVER seen in my life! He is the saddest baby I have ever seen. Often the weak kids brought here are fighters, and that is how they survive. Our precious Matteus is so sad I just want to cry for him. We named him Matteus (or Matthew) because it means God's gift. He IS a gift. And we are thanking God that while he was out there abandoned on the streets, GOD still saw him and cared for him and didn't leave him there, but brought him here. God is so faithful and GOOD! I just ask you to please take some time and just lift up Matteus to Jesus! Thank God for His life, and pray for QUICK AND AMAZING healing! That his life would bring glory to our Father, and He would be a testimony to the world of our faithful God.Thank you! Love,Anna

Miracles!!

Dear friends and family,

I hope these pictures do not take to long for you to load!

I would like to introduce you to Paulo! This little boy is about 8 years old (we are guessing this from the fact that he has his adult front teeth,
and from his head and face), has cerebral palsy, and he weighs just 8 kilos (17.6 pounds)! God is truly rescuing in the desperate children that have no voice.
Paulo is from the same center as Yuran (for those of you who read my last blog). It is a children's center down the road that is in quite a state.
The children are pretty well neglected, and dirty, and smelly. Slowly God has given us a cracked door into that center. We've been visiting every week and bring small gifts like stuffed animals for the kids (about 70 children live there), or sweets. 3 1/2 weeks ago Yuran (age 3) came to us quite sickly. They told us he was paralyzed on his left side and couldn't walk. A few different missionaries have been working very diligently with him, and since he has come, he's put on 4 kilos (about 8 pounds!), and IS walking all on his own! Today in the baby house he stood up and, slowly and wobbly, walked to me to ask for water! I wanted to cry. He's been transformed from a constant blank expression, and cranky personality, to a joyful little boy.
He laughs all the time! He had horrible scabies when he came, and his skin is almost completely cleared up.

Miracle #2 came to us one week later. Feliciano is about 6 years old and suffering very badly from TB, and probably many other conditions. He has gone untreated. We asked if we could take him, and the director of that center said "Yes." So we brought him here and immediately started tests and exams at the hospital, and treatment. He also is walking now, and laughing, and a very happy little boy (which happens to be what his name means! "Feliziano"--Happy little one).

And yesterday the director of our center went to this children's center again to ask for another child that isn't doing well, Paulo. For some reason they really didn't want to let us take him, so Ros asked if we could just bring him for a few hours so he could have a physical exam by our Dr. (we have a registered clinic here on
the base, and a Dr. who comes in 4 afternoons a week). He consented, and she brought him back. I looked after him all afternoon. Fed him, bathed him, and prayed for him. The Dr. said he has a very bad ear infection in both ears (it smells, too). And he has pneumonia, and horrible scabies. When we took him back to the center late in the afternoon, and explained his condition and that it would be easiest if we could treat him at our center, the director consented to letting us take him for a week. Please pray with us that he will let us keep him after the week is up. We also found out he came to that center in March or April 2006, after they found him behind a building across the street in a plastic bag!
Because he is on medicine and high maintenance, I was asked to have him sleep with me and care for him and keep up on his medicines. So I have gained a son for a week! During the day when I have lots of work he can sit in his stroller in the girls area with the dorm mothers. I am giving him all his medicines at the appropriate times, bathing him in the morning and evening with a special antibacterial treatment, and then doing a spray to treat the scabies. Feeding him his meals, changing his diapers, and loving on him! my girls think he is wonderful and all want to push him around in his stroller, and he laughs and smiles while they do! Please pray for healing for him, and for a miracle in his life!

We are amazed at how God has given us these 3 children, and I know you can rejoice with us! I want to ask you to please join with me in warfare for the rest of the children still at that center. Especially the youngest ones. Pray God would open doors to get them out of there and give them a better life! Please think about the many children throughout the world that are neglected, abused, broken, and forgotten. Cry out to God on their behalf. He HEARS the intercession of your heart, and I believe he is already responding.

Thank you all so much for your support and encouragement. You mean so much to me! I so appreciate you sending me out as an extension of the body of Christ, to
care for God's children in Mozambique. I love being here!
May you be blessed richly,

Love in Jesus,
Anna

Hope for the Hopeless...23 September, 2006

"For I know the plans I have for you," declares the Lord, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future." Jeremiah 29:11

Our joyful baby house!

Our newest addition to the girls dorm. Mira was brought to us yesterday by the police. She is about 6 or 7 years old. The police found her on the streets alone and brought her here. We took her to the clinic for an exam. I showered her in my house and dressed her in new clothes. She is darling, and a little bit hyper. Right now she is sitting next to me on the bed and some other girls are in looking through photos a visitor sent. Last night I set up a movie for the girls, and was just leaving them when Mira came running up to me and said, "I want to sleep with you tonight!"
I explained to her that she would be sleeping with the other girls, and introduced her to her dorm mother. She had her mind made up that she wanted to sleep in my house, so she pouted and hung onto my shirt. This morning she seems to be settled in a bit more.

Meet Yuran! There is a children's center down the road that is in quite bad shape. The children are not being well cared for, and it's filthy. We have been praying for a couple months now that they would decide to close down and we could get the children. Or that they would clean things up and change the way they are doing things. We just want the children to be taken care of!
Social Services said they would give them one more chance, but nothing has changed. Ros (wife of Steve Lazar. They are the directors of this center.) has been visiting every week, and this little 3 year old that weighs just 15 pounds really touched her heart. On Monday she was praying and felt the Lord tell her to just go ask for the baby! So she did! And the director of that center said "Yes"! And he is going to make a list of some others that are not doing well for us to consider taking. That was such a miracle! Tuesday she went and picked up Yuran. He is being cared for in our baby house now. He definitely has the mind of a 3 year old even though he is very week. He interacts with people, and talks. He's a fighter, which is a good sign! But he has picked up habits from being treated like a baby, so we are trying to break him from them (like gagging when it's time for medicine). He has sores all over his body, and his left side is weak. But we are trusting God to do His miracles and heal this boy. He will be a new child soon! I can't wait to share his testimonies with you.
Photo 4:
Yuran hates bath time and screams the whole time. All bundled up in my arms after his bath!
God is doing miracles every day. The children here are lovely! It is such a privilege and honor to mother the motherless, and give hope to the hopeless. Thank you for your prayers and support. Please pray for Yuran and Mira.
May the Lord bless you richly!

...Treasures in Heaven... August 30, 2006

Gina, Anna, and Maria Crimilda
Rainy Saturday
Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. Matthew 6:19-21
How rewarding it is to sew into people's lives and reap heavenly rewards! Each of the children and people here are treasures and it is such a joy to minister to them!
Lately the Lord has been speaking me about spending TIME with people. Just as He loves to spend time with us. It is not the 'things' that we give people that builds them up and encourages them, but the time we take to focus on the person in front of us. Loving on them, listening to them, caring for them, praying for them.
Saturday night is movie night in the girls dorm. It was pouring down rain, cold, and very windy. After turning on the movie (The Parent Trap) and passing out little bags of chips, I huddled in with the girls (all trying to keep warm) and enjoyed their laughter, and repeating lines. It was so nice to just be with them.
Sunday afternoon I walked with 2 girls that are rather shy, Paula and Judite, to the pool down the road. It was too cold to swim, but we sat and had french fries and coca-colas. They were teasing each other and laughing the whole time. What a lovely way to spend a Sunday afternoon. The girls had so much fun!
We have started discipleship in the girls dorm. The girls are divided into age groups, and 2 afternoons Ellie (missionary also involved in the girls area) and I invite the girls, and one of the Mozambican dorm mothers, into my house. We serve them tea or juice, and sit down in a comfy setting to learn about God. So far we have watched a film about the prodigal son, and how the father is like our heavenly Father. That has brought us into a session on the Father heart of God. Something important for these girls to learn, as many of them have a bad example of what a Father is. We do activities with them, and they get a memory verse to work on over the week.
I so enjoy being here! The Lord is faithful all the time. My days are filled with nursing small cuts with bandages, holding little girls who's feelings were hurt, laughing with those who laugh, praising the good things and disciplining the bad. It is amazing to be here, and I love it!
Things are going well in the baby house. I will only be running it along for another 2 weeks or so, and then Tracey comes back (yay!!). Everything has gone smoothly, praise God! The babies are lovely and growing so fast!
For those who may not have heard, baby Jill did go to be with Jesus. It was very hard, but the Lord has been gracious. And we have a new baby here now named Nehemiah. His dad is a pastor of a church near here. His mom died 3 weeks after he was born. He is about 6 weeks old now. Today his dad came to visit him. He comes a few times a week. When Nehemiah is a bit bigger he will be able to go live with his daddy.
Every day I am blessed by the treasures God gives to us! And I am reminded that our treasures are not our possessions, or our money. Our treasures come from how we are living our lives and using our time! Is it for the Lord? That is the richest life to have!
Bless you each! Take time to store up heavenly treasures! Of all things, you will NOT regret it!

Birthday Girls!!

A very special day!
July 22, 2006
Today we celebrated three birthdays for three very special little girls! Rita-16, Dionicia-11, and Aidinha-6. They each received invitations for their party, and have been asking me about it all week. I've been looking forward to it as much as they have!
Dionicia just arrived last week. Her mother died and her father left her and her brother. So they came to live here. She has never had a birthday party before. She was grinning from ear to ear the whole time!
The girls were given princess treatment today, because they are so special and wonderful. Each girl got to choose fancy clothes to wear (from my bag of special occasion clothes). They opened their gifts to find hair bands, chap stick, candy, stick-on earrings, and beads with string. Just what little girls love! We had spaghetti and salad for lunch on glass dishes with forks, and pop poured in glass cups. (Here they eat with plastic plates and use their hands)
We made pretty crepe paper flowers, played "Pass the parcel" with a present wrapped in layers, and in each layer they got either a candy, or a task (like jumping on one foot or singing a song). After unwrapping the last layer they found a colorful new jump rope, which they were thrilled to play with. We played other games, and they ran around the big yard chasing balloons and laughing. Afterwards they sat quietly drawing pictures and writing on paper, while eating cookies, and absorbing the attention of missionaries, and a sweet Mozambican dorm parent.
It was so fun separating them from the 400 children living here, making them the center of attention and celebrating their lives. It is amazing to show these girls God's love for them! Every day is just such a joy. I love it!
God has made us each the center of HIS attention, and he just loves us so much! What an honor to be called sons and daughters of God! Let's live like it!
Bless you all richly.
With love and joy,
Anna Coumos

The Lord is bringing changes

Hello Everyone!
The Lord is amazing! I am doing so well, and I love being in
Africa.
Allot has happened since my last update. So I will try and fill
you in, and not make this too long and boring.
We ended the dental team on an excellent note. We had a wonderful time at the smaller orphanage, though our power source was very unsteady, so we mostly just did simple extractions. Their last day here we went to the community, and set up our mobile dentist office in a canicu reed school building. We had two wooden tables for the patients to lay on, and lots of balloons for the children. We spent the whole day there, and worked on 65 or 70 people! We did children in the morning, and adults all afternoon. I lost track of how many fillings and extractions we did. The people were lovely, and the day was beautiful. AND!! --->I got to use my first latrine, which was fun. :-)
I went to South Africa last Thursday (June 29th) to get a new visa. I went with a dear lady named Tracey, who is from England. We spent one day there pretending to be tourists. We went to "God's window" which was an amazing view. We also went to several other sites, including "The Pot Holes", "Mac Mac Falls" and "Brisbon Falls", "The pinnacle", and "The three Rondawels" (sp?). It was amazing to see God's beautiful creation!
And now, since you have been wondering about the title of this blog update (you were, weren't you?), I will tell you. Ros Lazar (the wife of Steve Lazar--they run this center) came over one day last week to discuss something with me, which she has been praying about and wanted to put before me to consider and pray about myself.
At the moment we have 66 girls here in the girls dorms. In the past we have had a wonderful missionary here named Debbie, who did all the medical for the girls, as well as looking after their needs and all the responsibility of running the girls area. She went home for a year to rest, because she was quite burnt out. So then another sweet missionary came named Annelie. She is also a nurse and moved into Debbie's house (which is attatched to the girls dorm) to take Debbie's place. But Steve and Ros have been praying about what to do because looking after the girls is a full time job, and their medical responsibilities is another full time job, so it is too much for one person. So they asked if I would trade houses with Annelie, and be responsible for the girls? And they are moving all the medical stuff to the clinic, so the girls cannot knock on the door all the time when they have a problem. They will have to go to the clinic to be seen.
I have really felt like this time would not be a repeat of the last time I was here, so I have been patiently waiting for the Lord to bring me more. I knew this was His doing, and I am thrilled!
So July 4th, while you were at parades or picnics, I traded houses with Annelie, and began the wonderful ministry of caring for the girls.
I love the girls so much, and am thrilled to be a part of their lives. They range in age from 5 years to 18 years. My responsibilities are quite wide ranged, and I can choose my own schedule. I really have a free range, which is amazing to me. I am able to do what was done in the past, or do my own thing. Annelie has handed it over to me, and has really encouraged me to use the gifts God has given me, and my creativity, to minister to these girls however I want. Not to feel like I have to do things the way she or Debbie did. I can't tell you how awesome that is to me!
So I am just getting into things, and it is going well so far. I have spent 2 days reading through all of their charts, learning about their social and medical history. For some of them it is quite sad. The parents may have died, or been abusive, or neglected them. But I am excited to minister God's love and hope to them daily. I am so thrilled about building relationships with them and setting an example for them.
On the physical side of things, we are starting a renovating project in the girls area. We have 12 bedrooms, and we are going to repaint the walls in each room, and tile all the floors! This is a big, and expensive project, so we will just take it slowly. We just bought the materials to do the first 2 rooms. I will be sewing curtains for the rooms, as well. A short term team is coming through in a few weeks and has asked if they can help in the girls area. What an answer to prayer! I am going to coordinate this project for them.
There are many needs which I would like to meet. One of which is buying bath towels for all the girls. None of them have any, so when they are done with their shower they are dripping wet when they put their clothes back on. If you would like to donate money for this, that would be greatly appreciated! A towel costs about four or five dollars here. You can give many to my mom, or through our church "Community of Believers", and in an envelope marked "Iris Ministries".
I will continue working in the baby house and with the preschool, but my responsibilities have been cut back a bit to make time for the girls. Yesterday a set of 3 week old twins were brought to our center. Their mom died 2 days after they were born, and their father works and cannot give them the care they need. It is a boy and a girl (Vasco and Lucy). They are so tiny and perfect! I had Lucy for 3 hours today. She is lovely. You will see in this picture, Benia (one of my girls) holding baby Lucy.
We have been praying for the Lord to send us more babies, especially those who really need care. We have had 5 come in the last 2 months! He is faithful.
Thank you for your prayers, and for joining me in this mission to Mozambique, Africa. The Lord is doing some amazing things, and I am so happy to be a part of it!
Bless you richly. May you experience the faithfulness of God in the areas of your life that you have been struggling with. He is amazing and so full of love!
Love always in Jesus,
Anna Coumos

Dentistry in Africa!!

(That's me on the right of the patient)
June 25th, 2006
We have a dental team from New Zealand here right now! They came with 2 dentists and lots of helpers. I am a dental assistant, so I am so thrilled that I can help out! This past week we treated all the children here that needed work, as well as the Mozambican workers, and all the pastors from the bible school. We set up a dental office in the clinic here on the center. We have been doing fillings, extractions, and even two root canals!!
We went down to the school buildings on the center early every morning to scan each class, and then those that needed work would go up to the clinic with us, and wait in a separate room watching movies. I have been assisting one of the dentists all week, translating, and caring for each patient. I love it!
We had two hospital beds available in the clinic. Neither of them go up or down (I'm told they did once work). The first 3 days our only chair side light was a little flash light I got to hold. Then two team members rigged up a very funny looking light fixture that stood between the two beds. They took a metal coat rack and tied a 2x4 board to the top, that hung over each bed. Then they used lots of duct tape to attatch two desk lamps. It worked out okay, but we still needed the flash lights for a better view.
This week we will be heading out to do even more primitive dentistry (as if it weren't primitive enough here!). Monday and Tuesday we are going to a smaller Iris orphanage to treat their kids. Wednesday we will be going to the community. We have to bring our own mattresses for the patients to lie down on, and jugs of water for our drill and for the sterilization. I am in charge, as the girl who was going to be leading these outreaches is going to Canada with her husband for a month. Please pray for me!
God is doing a healing work through this dental team. Many people have come to us for extractions or fillings, and the next day they show up smiling to say thank you. We've been giving out red, heart-shaped balloons to all the kids, telling them, "Jesus loves you!"
I am overwhelmed by God's amazing love. He is so worthy to be praised!
Blessings to each of you. Thank you for praying for me. I feel it!
Love in Jesus,
Anna

Welcome to Mozambique!

Hello friends and family!
I arrived safely here on Tuesday, May 31st. Thank you for praying. Jesus really blessed my
trip here (no airsickness, hallelujah!). All my luggage came through at the same time I did (praise God!). My dear friend Laura picked me up at the airport. When we arrived at the center, several children
remembered me and were calling out, "Mana Ana! Mana Ana!" :-) That was a joy.
The missionaries had a lovely room awaiting me. Dr. Jenny from England just went home
for a year, and had left me all her furniture (2 shelves, a desk, a small dresser, a chair), so I don’t
need to buy any. My room is painted a beautiful dark, robins egg blue. My mosquito net matches the
room perfectly! The Lord has just blessed me with such a comfortable space to call my home.
I share a section of the long term house with Vella. She has a bedroom, and we share a living room
and bath room. We share a kitchen with a wonderful couple from Texas.
Last night we had a potluck for home group. They prayed for me and made me feel very
welcome. There is a great team of about 35 long term missionaries here at the moment.
My current responsibilities will include assisting in the baby house, teaching preschool, and
working in the new library. I already spent some time sorting and organizing the books in the library.
And I have spent lots of time with the babies. Monday I will start working in the preschool. I am very
excited about that!
Thank you all for your prayers! Bless you. Please continue praying especially against malaria,
as tonight I noticed a mosquito bite on my ankle. I guess I didn’t do a good enough job with the bug spray.
I do have a cell phone now. You can go to phonecards.com, and purchase the African Safari card.
With that you can call and it costs just 9 cents per minute! My phone number is: 011-258-82-579-7134.
I look forward to hearing from you! Remember, I am 6 hours ahead, so it is 6:00 p.m., it will be midnight here. (But a call from home is worth being woken up, so call whenever you want!)

Children’s Day
June 1st, 2006
Today we celebrated children’s day here at the center. It is just about impossible to have a birthday party for each of the 450+ children here, so we have a special day for all of them. This morning Mama Heidi went to each dorm to pass out gifts to each child. (Heidi Baker founded Iris Ministries, and now travels to all of the Iris centers loving on the children, and to churches all over the world to minister to people.) I assisted in the baby house. They were thrilled with their new set of clothes, sunglasses, baby dolls, toy cars, blocks, and lots of other gifts . We had 2 tricycles for the baby house, which they all wanted to try out.
After gifts were opened and played with, the children changed into their new clothes, and we all walked to the church (which doubles as a dining room) for a special lunch- chicken, french fries, cole slaw, and, of course, lots and lots of rice! The children (including 150 kids we brought over from the city dump) sat at long tables, with balloons and streamers hanging from the rafters over head. The missionaries served them their lunch, and passed out bottles of pop. Then we sat down on the floor or squeezed in at the tables to eat with them. No utensils, just our fingers. There is something about eating with your hands that makes the rice taste better. The children were all aglow as they showed off their new things.
In the late afternoon the kids got a thrill, as they sat on the sidelines of our soccer field. We had male missionaries against male Mozambicans, then female missionaries against female Mozambicans!! It was loads of fun. After 2 ½ hours of playing the missionary ladies finally scored a goal. Bravo! We had so much fun.
At the end of the day everyone went to bed tired, but happy.

The Lord is awesome! Thank you for sending me here. Monday I will be getting into my responsibilities, and I look forward to that.

May you be blessed richly!
Love in Christ,
Anna Coumos
